You’ve heard of it. You know it exists. You even add a link to it from your website. Why aren’t you posting anything there? I’m talking about the social media elephant in the room: Google+

Google is the king of ‘search’. Beefing up Google+ can only help make your business more searchable, right? Right! Then why is it often considered a social media marketing nightmare? Because for every social media elephant in the room, there’s a giant. This time, there are two giants in the way: Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook and Twitter take the education out of social media by making their platforms easy to use by anyone and everyone. From navigation to interaction, these two networks are the clear choice for marketing your business. Google+ can be easy to use if you take the time to learn how to use it to your advantage, but who has the time for that? Answer: YOU!

Whether or not you’re neglecting Google+ because you think you don’t have time or don’t want to learn how to use it, you’re losing out on a potentially big network. While it might not be as publicly active as Facebook or Twitter, Google+ is growing rapidly as communities grow and expand. You’re also missing out on Google+ being so closely tied with Google search, that not updating your profile/page is only hurting your organic search rankings, regardless of how well you think your SEO is doing. Often times, your business’s Google+ information will be right up there at the top, and if your information is wrong or outdated you’ve got a problem.

There’s no excuse to ignore Google+ or any social network that has potential to be beneficial to your business. If there’s a learning curve, stick it out and learn. Interaction will come, and the elephant in the room will become a giant.
